The annual accounts of the ECB comprise the management report, the financial statements (i.e. the Balance Sheet, the Profit and Loss account and the related notes), the note on profit distribution/allocation of losses and the independent external auditor’s report.
The ECB’s financial statements, management report and note on profit distribution/allocation of losses are approved by the Governing Council in February of each year and published immediately thereafter, together with the independent external auditor’s report.
The financial statements of the ECB are prepared in accordance with the accounting policies laid down in the Decision on the annual accounts of the ECB, which the Governing Council of the ECB considers to achieve a true and fair presentation, reflecting at the same time the nature of central bank activities.
